Sugar Mutts Rescue, Inc. is an independent, 501(c)(3)/non-profit, animal rescue founded upon the core belief that all animals deserve our kindness and respect. Founded in 2007 in Brooklyn, New York, by Amy Marciano, Sugar Mutts began as a foster-based dog rescue dedicated to rescuing and re-homing dogs in need, primarily from high-kill shelters and neglectful circumstances. The organization eventually grew to open a large warehouse space where we could physically house our rescues, and additionally offer daycare and boarding services to the community of Brooklyn. Still, Sugar Mutts was always evolving… and destined to help and care for other types of animals as well. That dream, coupled with the ever-increasing costs of operating a small non-profit in New York City, lead SMR to permanently relocate to the beautiful Pocono Mountains region of Pennsylvania in early 2018.
